Yup That was obviously Anet's intention with the 100k limit, so they should either make it a reality or remove the limit because it isn't fooling anyone.

One has to wonder if maybe ANet had some reason for that cap? Like, for example, to attempt to keep inflation down? When players started using ectos as a replacement currency, they were circumventing the price limitations ANet put in place to attempt to control inflation.

And now, all rare materials were exempted from loot scaling, and at the same time gold was made harder to farm. It's not coincidence that these factors combined to destabilize the price of ectos and make them less desirable as a replacement currency, nor is it a coincidence that gold is becoming more valuable. Why would they remove the cap now that it can actually be an effective cap?

OR

We can just use Gold as currency and stop overcharging each other, because that is what the gold is there for.

One question:

how will you inform all players in GW to use lockpicks instead of ectos?

Like how so? 5 payments of 100k for 500k total?

The same way that we encouraged people to use the party search, i.e. no clue.

Yes, it's going to be hard. But it is a much more stable price.

we start using 100k+lockpicks when we spam something. ppl will little by little realize is a smart idea and will jump on the train that's leaving the station.
the side effect of this is that ectos will sink even more, but i dont care tbh already converted my wealth to picklocks as soon as hard mode came i needed them to run chests.

what we really need to get this running is a gw "bank" of volunteers offering to sell picklocks to whoever for 1.2k each. factions city owners selling picklocks with no profit will hugely help to spread this new currency

WTS strenght tormented shield 100k+500picklocks FTW!!!

Question is, what should lockpick oficial rate be?

1.5k
1.2k
1k ... ?

1.2K sounds like best pricing.

This is a great idea, it provides a stable way to store/trade money and gives factions guilds a reason to continue holding towns. The market will push the price of picks towards 1.2k ea as guilds try to undercut each other to make easy cash.

ANet have stated they won't do that & I agree with them because there is no item in the game worth more than 100k.
People charging 100k + ectos are just raising the price to get more money.

For much less than 100k you can outfit yourself with the most effective armor in the game (for your class) and a set of weapons/shield/wands.

The problem with that is that there are people willing to pay the 100k + ectos for the item. The only fair ways for ANET to change an items value is to increase supply or make gold more valuable, then wait for the market prices to adjust. Though if ANET introduced a trading system that allowed people to quickly and easily compare prices across all of guild wars, I have a feeling that the prices as everyone will be able to easily find the person selling for cheapest.

Yes, but you may prefer the look of the more expensive ones. Though personally I'll take 14^50 items because they are only slightly worse damage wise than 15^50, but usually much cheaper.

As for using lockpicks as the >100k item, thats up to the people involved in the trade. If I'm selling an item worth over 100k (I sell at guru auctions and let the buyers decide the value) I'm happy to take lockpicks (or any merchantable items for that matter) at the price I can sell them to the merchant at, though some items I'll accept at a higher value (currently only ecto and black dye).

I doubt I'll ever be buying any item from players costing over 100k.

Hehe sounds like a good idea.
Stable price owns the ecto price IMO, but ectos are nice to have when their prices go up ^^

Haha, awesome idea, a stable pricing and an item that is actually useful! How many people trading with ectos use em for armour anyway?
